Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There are two elements of foreshadowing in this chapter that I see. The first is the lack of letter from Jenny. We know that Jenny is a stubborn woman, and we saw that in the very first book. This chapter continues the reminder that Jenny will hold a grudge for a long time.

There is another loss for Jenny coming up in later books. This loss will link to Claire, and it will see Jenny hold a grudge against Claire for a long time. It’s all about Ian Murray’s death, which Claire can’t do anything to prevent.

The other bit of foreshadowing comes from the letter about Stephen Bonnet. It’s clear that he’s up to something big, and we do eventually find out what that is. He’s certainly not just smuggling contraband items into the Colonies. There is something much worse coming up, and Brianna will be directly involved eventually.

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

This chapter specifically wasn’t used. However, we do get to see some of the things that Bonnet is up to in Outlander Season 5. We also get to see what the bigger thing he’s involved in is. The story from A Breath of Snow and Ashes was pulled forward to the fifth season due to the way things work in the TV industry.

The conversation between Brianna and Claire didn’t happen, though. However, there were other moments where mother and daughter would bond. These moments were important for the TV series. I know that a lot of people were disappointed not to see moments between Brianna and Jamie, but I liked the bonding moments between Claire and Brianna. They were always going to be important for the way that things ended for Claire in Outlander Season 5.

Not everything can fit into the show. I was always disappointed in the lack of development between Roger and Brianna in the third and fourth seasons, but the fifth season made up for that slightly. There’s a chance in Season 6 and onward to make up for the lack of development between Bree and Jamie.
