Is The Nevers on tonight, Sunday, May 23?

For the last six Sundays, we’ve enjoyed watching Outlander’s Laura Donnelly in the lead of The Nevers. Do we get a new episode tonight, Sunday, May 23?

The Nevers Season 1, Episode 6 brought us some major reveals about Donnelly’s character, Amalia True. She isn’t an alien but a warrior from the future transported back in time into the body of a woman she doesn’t know. We knew there was some sort of secret, but not this, and it was an excellent twist.

Naturally, with everything that’s going on, we want more. We want to see where this story is going to go from this point, but will that happen tonight?

Sadly not. There isn’t a new episode of The Nevers Season 1. Episode 6 was the Part One Finale, and we’re waiting for the second half of Season 1 coming…sometime in the future.

There isn’t a rerun tonight, either. HBO doesn’t tend to do reruns, moving onto new shows. Tonight, In Treatment Season 4 premieres at 9/8c. The good news is you can watch The Nevers on HBO Now and HBO Max.

Why is The Nevers on a break?

It’s not often for HBO to break up a season in two. We’ve seen STARZ do it now and then with the likes of Power and its spin-off Power Book II: Ghost. However, HBO tends to run a season straight through and doesn’t even usually put in a week break.

That has had to change in 2021 for The Nevers. The show’s production was shut down temporarily due to COVID-19 like so many others. That shutdown actually happened before Episode 6, according to Collider.

There was another big change that happened. Joss Whedon stepped down as showrunner. That has meant some changes behind the scenes that required some extra time off.

Part Two is coming, but we don’t have a premiere date just yet. It could return sometime in 2021. With six episodes to film, there is certainly enough time for this. We’re hoping during this break that HBO will renew The Nevers for Season 2.
