Just the Outlander chapter

While Claire and Jamie enjoy their domestic bliss, Roger and Brianna continue to spend more time together. We get this sense of hope that Roger and Brianna are going to choose each other. Everything has even been going right for Claire this morning, making her happy.

Duncan Innes arrives at Fraser’s Ridge with an invitation to the Gathering. Jocasta is holding the Gathering, and Jamie did say that he would come. However, Jamie now realizes how much he needs to do if he wants to get things ready before the winter sets in.

Duncan mentions that there will be a priest there. Jocasta believes that Roger and Brianna will want to get the baby baptized. That’s certainly a thought, but it’s not something that makes Jamie commit to the Gathering just yet.

He doesn’t commit until Duncan asks Jamie’s permission to marry Jocasta. Sure the two are old enough to make decisions without asking for permission, but Duncan has always been loyal to Jamie. He didn’t think it right without asking for Jamie’s permission as Jocasta’s closest kin.

That’s the real reason the priest is coming to the Gathering. It’s going to be a wedding, and Jamie makes it clear that he will come after all. He wouldn’t miss a wedding.
