Claire and Bree’s reunion on Outlander Season 4, Episode 9 was everything I needed
Outlander Season 4, Episode 9 aired on this day in history. While so many people focus on Bree and Jamie meeting for the first time, I found Claire and Bree’s reunion more important.
Brianna had put her life at risk to warn Claire and Jamie that they would die in a fire. Okay, book fans know that not to be the case, but throughout Outlander Season 4 (and even throughout Drums of Autumn), there was that belief that Bree would need to change history.
She went through hell. On the show itself, she only survived the Scottish forests due to luck and a stranger, she was locked in a room when the stranger found out who she was, and she was raped by Stephen Bonnet after an argument with Roger.
By this point, she wasn’t even sure she was going to find Claire and Jamie. She simply just had to try. And it was more by luck than anything else that she did run into him during Outlander Season 4, Episode 9. And yes, this meeting was sweet, but the reunion with Claire was all the more beautiful.
Brianna could lean on someone for the first time
While Brianna could have possibly leaned on Roger, they weren’t together at this point. After another argument, Roger had left Bree behind. He wanted to go back to her, but Bonnet got in the way. This isn’t the time for arguments over Roger’s actions right now.
It’s all about Bree. When she met Jamie, there was no way she was going to tell him her whole tale. In fact, it wasn’t until she felt she had to that she told Claire everything.
But in the reunion, it didn’t matter. Brianna was able to let her guard down. She was able to accept the warm embrace of her mother. She became that little girl again that she couldn’t become around anyone else. Because it doesn’t matter how old you get, there are times you just want your mom!

And this was an important moment for Claire, too. She went to the past to Jamie believing that she would never see her daughter again. This wasn’t like moving overseas where she could write to Bree. Claire fully believed that the night she left Bree and Roger was the last time she would speak to or even hear about her daughter.
And then suddenly, her daughter was here. Bree wasn’t just in the past but was in Wilmington.
A range of emotions went through Claire. After all, the last thing Claire would have wanted was for her modern daughter to come to a past that wouldn’t appreciate her skills or her strong personality. She wouldn’t want Bree to put her life in danger.
Yet, the worry and the potential anger (there would have been a little) was overshadowed by relief and happiness. Bree was here in front of her. Claire got a second chance with her daughter.
