A Discovery of Witches has a brand new trailer teasing an exciting second season

We still have no idea when Outlander will return to our screens, but there’s a show coming back that might provide some Droughtlander relief.  A Discovery of Witches is returning for a second season in January 2021, and they’ve released a new trailer to whet our appetites.

Why A Discovery of Witches?  The All Souls Trilogy of books on which it’s based is extremely well-written and well-researched, much like Outlander, and the show is a faithful adaptation.  The show revolves around a passionate love story, and time travel will play a huge role in Season 2.

Where can you find A Discovery of WitchesSeason 2 is coming to Sky One and Now TV in the UK on Jan. 8.  It will be on AMC+, Shudder, and Sundance Now in the U.S. on Jan. 9.  They’ve said that all episodes will be dropping at once in the UK, but it appears they’ll be coming out weekly in the U.S.

A Discovery of Witches takes place in a version of our world where creatures—witches, vampires, and daemons—exist among us.  In the first season, reluctant witch Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer) discovers a magical manuscript while doing research at Oxford.  The manuscript attracts the attention of the other creatures, who all want it, including the vampire Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode).  The two come together to discover more about the manuscript and end up falling in love and facing many dangers.

The new trailer promises more danger for Matthew and Diana in A Discovery of Witches Season 2

The Season 2 trailer opens with Matthew and Diana in Elizabethan England, where they time traveled at the end of Season 1.  Matthew is reflecting on things he’s done in his past and warning Diana what he’s capable of.  Diana is sure he won’t hurt her.

We meet several new characters in the trailer.  Tom Hughes (Victoria) is the playwright Kit Marlowe.  James Purefoy plays Matthew’s father Philippe.  The most exciting addition for us is Outlander’s own Steven Cree as Gallowglass, Matthew’s nephew.

The fact that Matthew and Diana have broken the Covenant, which forbids relationships between different species of creatures, seems to be as much of a problem in Elizabethan England as it was in the present.  She insists they will protect each other, but Matthew says her “presence [is] making matters even worse.”

We see Peter Knox in a scene in the present, and he is aware the couple has traveled to the past.  It seems threats will abound in the second season.  Diana even comes face to face with Queen Elizabeth, vowing that her people are loyal to the crown.  There is talk of traitors and putting her to death.  Looks like an exciting season!

Next. Vikings is something to watch to get through Droughtlander. dark
