In an interview, Sam Heughan stated Outlander Season 6 filming will go ahead in early 2021
This is it, Sassenachs. After months of uncertainty, we now know that Outlander is set to resume production early next year. This seemingly interminable Droughtlander will come to an end! Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser in the time-traveling drama, confirmed they’ll start shooting Outlander Season 6 in early 2021 in an interview with GMA3.
We’ve been wondering about the start date for months, following clues that pointed to early 2021, perhaps in January. This is the first time, however, that Heughan has said “we’re gonna start shooting early next year.” He added, “we’re all excited to go back to work. We’re all ready for it.”
Production has been on hold for several months due to the coronavirus. The pandemic has forced TV crews to find new ways of working so they can keep everyone safe. Outlander is especially challenging as it’s a big show with lots of extras, and it has a lot of intimate scenes. Sam indicated that things are “getting back to normal” and they’re “finding ways around” the problems posed by COVID-19.

In the GMA3 interview, they mentioned that Sam is in London working on a movie with Priyanka Chopra (Jonas) and Celine Dion. That project is Text for You, which we reported on previously. There was a funny moment at the start when the lights went out. Sam’s face was priceless.
Heughan also talked about his New York Times bestselling book Clanlands, which he co-wrote with Graham McTavish, and its companion show Men in Kilts. He disputed the claim that their adventures were “death-defying” but admitted he finds great joy in winding Graham up and putting him in uncomfortable situations. He called the book a “love letter” to Scotland and seemed quite chuffed by the impact Outlander has had on Scottish tourism.
