Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There is very little foreshadowing in this chapter. The focus is on Roger learning the truth, that Claire has found Jamie. It’s about Brianna finding out that Claire has found Jamie’s name in the list of prisoners’ names.

It’s good news. After all, without this find, there’s no way the story could continue. There’s no way Roger could keep looking through history. Now he has something to work with.

Adapting the Voyager chapter

Of course, this chapter was used on Outlander Season 3. There was no way that it couldn’t be. Even though it’s a two-minute chapter, it gets Claire, Roger, and Brianna on the same page (no pun intended) about Jamie.

The chapter was done differently, though. Claire didn’t get to find Jamie’s name in the middle of the night while everyone else slept. She didn’t get the chance to hold onto the manifest and sleep peacefully.

Instead, Roger and Brianna were there. Claire told them right away that she’d found him. It happened mixed in with the conversations about the Dun Bonnet and the legends of the time. While it missed the chance for Claire to sleep peacefully, it was a little more dramatic in terms of the overall story.

The change also helped to keep the focus on the search and just keep pushing ahead. In a series where the entire search had to happen over the course of one-and-a-half episodes, reducing the time spent on this part of the research was necessary.
