Lord John Grey told Jamie that he was heading back to England during Outlander Season 5, Episode 11. Is that the last we’ve seen of the character?
During Outlander Season 5, Episode 11, we learned that Lord John Grey was heading back to England. There wasn’t too much panic at first from book fans, but now it looks like this may be the last we’ve seen of the character on the series.
Now in the novels, Lord John Grey remains an important character. He has his own chapters, so many book fans expected to see David Berry on their screens for a very long time. Sadly, that doesn’t seem to be the case. It looks like the writers may be planning on skipping a large section of one of the future novels.
In an Instagram post, Berry said goodbye. Well, actually, he said he doesn’t like goodbyes. It led to fans questioning how long this “goodbye” would be, expecting to hear that he’s going to be in some Outlander Season 6 episodes. That was when we got the terrible news.
Berry shared that this was his last episode. At least, it’s the last episode for now. I guess we should never say never, but it sounds like he’s (like Ed Speleers and Billy Boyd) will be looking for new work sooner than expected.
"final ep on show. But “life is long. Perhaps someday”"
This certainly comes as a shock. However, there remains hope that a Lord John Grey spin-off is in the works. With the character in England helping Willie and with Ulysses by his side (I’m guessing this also means that there’s no more Ulysses planned), it could set up some great opportunities for storylines in a spin-off series.
One thing it means is a lot of storylines will need to be changed in the later seasons with this decision. Not only could it means Lord John Grey storylines are changing but Willie won’t show up in the future.
