Outlander Season 5, Episode 7 was a powerful and emotional episode. Here are the top three Jamie moments from the entire episode.

What an episode of Outlander Season 5! The writers certainly deserve a round of applause for the heartbreak, drama, and intensity throughout the episode. Outlander Season 5, Episode 7 is the best episode of the season so far, and I think this season has been extremely strong.

Jamie didn’t have it easy throughout the episode. This was the moment he had to put on a uniform he despises and fight on a side he doesn’t necessarily agree with—well, fight against a side he can empathize with.

That all being said, there were three moments that stood out for me throughout the episode. Here are my three favorite Jamie moments and why.

3. The prayer to Dougal

Claire came across Jamie in a stream, in prayer to what she thought was God. However, it turned out that he was praying to Dougal. You see, he’d made peace with his uncle a long time ago and he needed Dougal’s advice moving forward. As a War Chief, of course Dougal was going to have some words of advice.

It’s an important moment from “The Fiery Cross” that takes place much sooner. However, this positioning of the moment was perfect and gave us this meaningful moment for Jamie.

2. His hesitation to fire

Jamie had already hesitated to put on the jacket and mark himself as part of the British Army. However, it was the moment on the battlefield that stood out for me. Throughout Outlander Season 5, Episode 7, Jamie made it clear that he didn’t want to fire upon the Regulators. Most of them were farmers with little to no experience in battle.

As the British fired upon the Regulators, Jamie hesitated. Even not knowing how this battle would end, he’d have hesitated. Some of these were kin, some of them were just men he knew at Ardsmuir. He didn’t want to kill people he knew, loved, and empathized with.

1. Standing up to Governor Tryon

At the very end, Jamie had had enough. He’s lost someone extremely close to him, and Governor Tryon wanted to celebrate the victory. This wasn’t a victory to celebrate.

Who else cheered as Jamie stood up to Governor Tryon? Jamie took off the coat and made it extremely clear that his obligation to the crown is over. He’s paid his debt for the land and he won’t fight against an undertrained army of farmers again.
