Our attention is currently on Outlander Season 5, but behind-the-scenes, focus is on the future. Ron D. Moore says he’s in talks about spin-offs.
While we’re focusing on Outlander Season 5, behind-the-scenes sees focus on the future of the series. Ron D. Moore confirms that talks are happening for Outlander spin-offs.
It’s important to note that nothing is confirmed just yet. According to Variety, Moore and STARZ are in conversations about the potential of a future for the series, including the idea of spin-offs. This certainly isn’t anything new. Jeffrey Hirsch had already mentioned that STARZ was keen on a future with Outlander in it, and spin-offs were being considered.
One of those spin-offs that many fans would like to see is one involving Lord John Grey. David Berry is up for a series, and Diana Gabaldon has even said a miniseries focusing on Jamie’s close friend would be a good idea. There is a novella series based on the character, which makes adaptation possible.
Right now, there’s been no confirmation as to what the Outlander spin-offs could be about, though. With talks just happening, there will be a lot to plan out. Not only would the idea need to be viable for the fans, but there would need to be content to develop on. The actors would also need to be interested.
Talks for a seventh season and beyond will also likely be happening right now. STARZ, Sony, and the Outlander production will need to look ahead now that the fifth season is underway onscreen. Planning ahead and talking now will help to keep Droughtlander to a minimum.
