With STARZ looking at building on the world of Outlander, Diana Gabaldon has shared her thoughts on an idea for a Lord John Grey miniseries.

Since STARZ CEO Jeffrey Hirsch shared that the company is open to Outlander spin-offs and prequel series, fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts. The general consensus is to bring a Lord John Grey series to life, and Diana Gabaldon agrees. But she has shared some specifics of what she would like.

The conversation started when Gabaldon shared a news post from Entertainment Weekly on her Facebook about the ideas for spin-off series. There’s also a tease for Outlander Season 5, which she mentioned purely for those who want to avoid spoilers. However, the conversation in the comments moved on to discussions of a Lord John Grey miniseries.

There is a lot of material in the novella The Scottish Prisoner that fans want to see developed. Some were disappointed that the material was cut from Outlander Season 3, but with so little time, there’s no way the show had the time to add it all in. But there would be the opportunity to tell the story on a deeper level with a spin-off series.

Gabaldon would love to see The Scottish Prisoner adapted into a miniseries. More specifically, she shared that she’d like to see it in something like six episodes. With the length of the novella and the material we’ve already had on Lord John Grey that would certainly be possible.

Of course, there are no confirmed plans for a Lord John Grey spin-off. It’s something that has been brought up before, but this is the first time I’ve seen Diana Gabaldon confirm that she’d love to see the novella adapted. It would be a great way to fill a Droughtlander somewhere.
