Outlander Season 6 will start production very soon. Casting is underway and Suzanne Smith is back as the casting director. Get the details.

While we’re waiting for Outlander Season 5, the EPs, cast, and crew are getting ready for Outlander Season 6. Filming will start very soon and that means casting needs to take place. Suzanne Smith is back in the driving seat as casting director.

The news comes from Backstage, which also shares that filming is going to start in May. This is roughly about the time we expected based on some of the comments from cast members recently, and it also makes sense. The weather, while rainy, is much more predictable in the summer months and easier to manage than in the winter months.

As for the casting, it’s not clear who needs to be cast just yet. While we know the bulk of the story is coming from “A Breath of Snow and Ashes,” there’s a chance that material from other books could be used. After all, there’s a theory that the end of Outlander Season 5 will include a bit from the sixth book.

Suzanne Smith isn’t a stranger to the world of Outlander. She’s been involved in the show from the very beginning, with IMDb crediting her with casting up until Season 4’s “The Birds and the Bees.”

She’s also not a stranger to STARZ productions or period dramas, working on Black SailsCarnival Row, and Knightfall in the past. Other major works include Absentia, Good Omens, and Into the Badlands. It’s going to be exciting to see her back as casting director for our series.

Outlander Season 6 will begin filming in May 2020. Season 5 premieres on STARZ on Feb. 16.
