During the Outlander Season 5 trailer, there’s a moment of Jamie in a lake covered in blood. What is the story behind this in The Fiery Cross?
There is a favorite moment of mine in “The Fiery Cross” that I feared would be missed out in Outlander Season 5. I wondered if there would be time for it. Thankfully, the Outlander Season 5 trailer suggests that it’s going to be kept.
It’s one of the big moments from the trailer. Towards the end, we see Jamie in a lake, dripping wet, with blood on his face and chest. It’s like he’s crossed himself, right?
Well, if it’s the moment from the books that I believe it will be, he has crossed himself. The blood is his own, cut on his finger during a ritual. He’s hoping to gain guidance from Dougal, as he prepares to build his militia and fight against the Regulators.
This is going to mean more to Jamie in the show than it would in the books. While it was still important, in the show, he’s facing against his own godfather. In fact, to make matters worse, Jamie has been tasked by Tryon to kill Murtagh. It’s not an easy ask, and Jamie will need guidance now more than ever.
I have to admit; I don’t think Dougal would have suggested becoming a Redcoat! In fact, he’ll be turning in his grave at the idea of Jamie wearing the uniform of the British Army. And that’s what makes those very quick clips in the trailer so brilliant. Just how did he get from asking Dougal to guidance to wearing the uniform of the British Army?
I’m just very glad to see that this important moment for Jamie in the books has been kept in the show.
