Sam Heughan is looking to go behind the camera more in the future

While actors love to do their job in front of the camera, many have aspirations behind the scenes. Sam Heughan is looking at more producing work.

On the last days of shooting Outlander Season 5, the cast took time to ask fan questions on Twitter. With Sam Heughan stepping into the role as a producer on the fifth season, there were plenty of questions about that. One of those was about his plans for the future.

I’ll note that this doesn’t mean anything about his time in front of the camera. Plenty of actors find a way to pull double duty. You just have to look at many of the Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries actors to see how it can be done. However, it is exciting to hear about what Heughan has planned for his future.

Producing Season 5 has certainly been fun. He answered a fan question about the amount of input that he’s had, and there’s more in the later episodes than the earlier ones. There is a lot to learn about behind the scenes work, so this season was a good time to develop those skills.

And now those skills will develop for the future. Sam Heughan shared with fans that he would like to produce more in the future. He has some projects that he’s developing and pitching.

We already know that Heughan is a busy man. While filming Outlander Season 5, he took time to travel Scotland with Graham McTavish to develop the Clan Lands Podcast, which is now turning into a TV series instead. Then there’s his whisky and his scarf collection that he’s developing, and we can’t forget his growing movie career.

None of this seems to bother him. In fact, he’s a man who likes to keep busy. He even says that “it’s fun to have other projects.”

So, if there’s more producing in the future, will we see Sam step into other roles behind the camera? Could we see him direct or write in the future? I guess we’ll have to find out!
