Tobias Menzies finally lands Golden Globes nomination
The Golden Globes 2020 nominations are out. While Outlander was overlooked yet again, we want to celebrate Tobias Menzies finally getting a nomination.
Outlander was overlooked and snubbed at the Golden Globes, yet again. Despite streaming services and cable networks dominating, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan are still unable to land the recognition they deserve. Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton were definitely overlooked as supporting stars. But for once, we get to celebrate because Tobias Menzies has been nominated for the Golden Globes 2020.
He was overlooked as the villain Black Jack Randall during most of his run on Outlander, although was among the list of nods for the first season. This nomination has finally come thanks to his role in The Crown Season 3. He plays Prince Philip, and it’s a role we know that he was born to play.

The nomination is certainly deserved. Menzies impressed during the episode set in 1969, which focused on the moon landing. This was a time that Prince Philip started to suffer from the knowledge of never doing anything meaningful with his life. He worried that he had contributed nothing to the world, and he’d also realized that he had lost faith.
There is some stiff competition within the category. Tobias Menzies will go up against Brian Cox for Succession, Kit Harington for Game of Thrones, Rami Malek for Mr. Robot, and Billy Porter for Pose. It’s certainly going to be a close battle between the great actors, but we have faith that Menzies will finally get his due.
The Crown didn’t just receive the one nomination, either Olivia Colman landed a nod for the portrayal of Queen Elizabeth and Helena Bonham Carter was nominated for her role as Princess Margaret. The show is also up for an award for Best Drama Series.
