The 2020 Golden Globes has found its host. Now it’s time to get ready for nominations. Will Outlander be eligible for the awards?
As we approach the end of the year, we start looking at the various awards shows that are still to come. The Golden Globes will be here before you know it. And that brings the questions of eligibility. Will Outlander be eligible for the 2020 awards?
With the show having shorter seasons, it can make eligibility for all awards difficult. Because episodes didn’t air in 2018, the show nearly wasn’t eligible for the People’s Choices Awards. Many fans argued that it should be since the awards show had moved from the start of the year to the end of the year, and it ended up with the series being allowed in the Bingeworthy category for that year.

But back to the 2020 Golden Globes. Only four episodes of Outlander aired in 2020. Would this be enough to secure nominations?
Well, it’s enough to make the show eligible for the awards. Whether it will gain nominations or not is another kettle of fish. This is a show that is routinely overlooked by the major awarding bodies. Part of that is due to it being a STARZ show. The network’s shows aren’t as heavily publicized and that means they’re often overlooked.
If the show was a Netflix original or even an Amazon original, I think we’d be having another conversation. It took a few years for Game of Thrones to get the recognition it deserved, and I feel like Claire and Jamie are in that same boat.
With four episodes to offer up, it’s doing to be difficult to land nominations. The strongest episode for me was “Providence.” I think that could help the series land a nomination for something like Best Drama, but it doesn’t include the two leads! This is something that could help Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin gain nominations more than Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe.
While I’d love to see the two co-stars gain nominations, it’s time for our leads to gain them too. Is there an episode that will offer that chance in Season 4? In the earlier episodes, yes, probably. But not in the later episodes of the season. I think that is where the struggle is going to be.
It’s a different thing when it comes to the 2021 Golden Globes. All of Outlander Season 5 will be eligible. Hopefully, that will be the year we seen multiple nominations and wins, like the show deserves.
