Matt B. Roberts isn’t going to be at New York Comin-Con 2019. That’s a good thing for Outlander production. Here’s everything he’s got going on!

If you were hoping to see Outlander showrunner, Matt B. Roberts at New York Comic-Con 2019, you will be disappointed. He wasn’t listed on the guests on the panel and that wasn’t a mistake. The showrunner has confirmed that he’s definitely not going to be there.

Similarly to Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin, Roberts is needed in Scotland. However, that’s not just for filming the current scenes of the series. While he does need to be there for the tail end of Season 5 filming, he’s needed for looking ahead at Outlander Season 6.

Recently, Roberts shared a tweet of him reading “A Breath of Snow and Ashes.” Fans couldn’t help but marvel at all the sticky tabs throughout the book, highlighting some of the most important parts of the novel. These are clearly the scenes that, right now, Roberts feels will be needed to be adapted or that he would like to adapt into the TV series.

This isn’t the only pre-production work going on. While New York Comic-Con 2019 takes place, Roberts says that he’s going to be working on setting the writer’s room up for the season. Yes, the writing for Season 6 is about to take place, and we couldn’t be more excited! That will hopefully mean a shorter period between Season 5 filming wrapping and Season 6 filming taking place.

Of course, there’s still some filming for Season 5 taking place. That’s why Skelton and Rankin aren’t going to be at NYCC this year. They’re needed for their scenes, showing that the two and their characters’ family is growing and gaining more of a role in the overall storyline. While that will disappoint those who watch for Claire and Jamie, the younger couple gains more attention in the book storylines so this is sticking to the books.
