If you’ve read the books that this series is based on, you’ll know all about the character. Recognize the surname just as a show-first or show-only fan? That makes sense! It’s the name of Matthew Goode’s character, Matthew De Clermont. The family dates back centuries and it’s only natural that we’d end up meeting a few members of the family now that Matthew and Diana are heading to the past.
They’ll be in 16th-century Europe, and Cree is Matthew’s nephew. A vampire and soldier, Gallowglass looks up to his uncle. We’ll likely see a fair bit of him throughout the season.
He’s not the only member of the De Clermont family that we’ll meet. James Purefoy will play Philippe De Clermont, Matthew’s stepfather, who was mentioned a few times throughout A Discovery of Witches Season 2.

It’s exciting to see Cree in another role, especially another period drama role. This may have been the role that caused problems for Outlander Season 5 filming at Midhope Castle. One of the actors had a beard that couldn’t be removed due to work on another project, but couldn’t be used for Outlander. There was plenty of speculation that it was Cree, so we’ll have to see what Gallowglass looks like when he’s introduced in A Discovery of Witches Season 2.
