Outlander Season 5 filming onto fifth block of episodes
How far is Outlander into filming Season 5? Sophie Skelton’s recent update of the fifth block gives us an idea of how much is left.
The Outlander production team doesn’t usually give updates on how far into filming the season is. What’s the point? Once it’s done, it’s done, right? Well, some behind the scenes understand that Sassenachs love to know whereabouts into the filming they are, and Sophie Skelton is one of them.
She recently shared a video on Instagram. It doesn’t show much, but does tell us that Season 5 filming is into the fifth block. Skelton and her castmates are on their way to the readthrough for the fifth block.

How far will the show be into the season, then? Outlander films a little differently to many other shows. Instead of doing one episode at a time, the production does things in blocks of typically two episodes. Being into the fifth block suggests that the show is into the ninth and 10th episodes of the season.
This is well more than halfway, which was the last update we got from Matt B. Roberts. It’s also right on schedule still, so the rain didn’t delay anything. This means that an end-of-the-year production end date is still on the cards, which is excellent considering we now have a Season 5 premiere date.

There are 12 episodes to the fifth season. If the show is on Episodes 9 and 10 of filming, this means there are only two more episodes left (one block). The production will be over well in time for the holiday season.
What does this mean for promotional material? Well, the first few episodes are complete. Some of the post-production work will likely need doing, but there may be a trailer or some clips soon.
