Outlander Season 5 filming at Midhope Castle canceled
Outlander Season 5 has been filming at Midhope Castle, but it’s since been canceled. What’s changed and what could the scenes have been?
Filming at Midhope Castle was supposed to take place during the summer for Outlander Season 5. The location used as Lallybroch is going to be back open to the public from next week, as filming for the series has been canceled.
Edinburgh Tour Guides shared the announcement on Facebook, stating that it’s due to one actor having a beard that couldn’t be removed. This actor is on loan from another production, which has likely already filmed scenes with the beard and shaving and using a prosthetic would be too obvious now. We just have to look at Henry Cavil’s mustache on Mission: Impossible – Fallout and the attempt to remove it through CGI on Justice League to see how much facial hair can come under scrutiny.

For those saying that a prosthetic beard could still be used, we also just have to think about Jamie’s wigs. How many people have complained about the wigs over the years? Could you imagine going from real beard to fake?
The post about canceling filming at Midhope Castle hasn’t shared who the actor is, but there are many who believe it is Steven Cree. It sounds like the Lallybroch scenes were invention to bring some of the letters to life. We know in “The Fiery Cross” that there are letters sent from Lallybroch and sometimes the showrunners like to show the characters writing those letters or living out the life instead of just telling the story.

Lallybroch doesn’t sound like a crucial part of the story. That will be why the filming has been canceled instead of just postponed until the filming on the actor’s other project is over.
