Outlander debuted five years ago to great ratings for STARZ. How did Outlander Season 1, Episode 2 hold up in the ratings? Let’s take a look back?

Each Friday, I’m going to look back at episodes that had aired on that day. Five years ago, Outlander Season 1, Episode 2 aired for the very first time. Just how did that episode perform in the ratings?

The previous week, the series had debuted to excellent ratings for STARZ. The premium cable network was so pleased with the ratings that the show was swiftly renewed for a second season. But did those ratings hold up for the second episode?

TV Series Finale gives us a look at the original live + same day ratings. These are only based on the figures Neilsen has access to, which means we don’t know the exact number of people who watched through the STARZ app or the exact number of people who watched during that week. However, the live figures were certainly great.

The total audience saw a 24% increase in viewership to 0.895 million. The key demo, which is important for networks that rely on commercials for revenue, saw a 42% increase in the rating to 0.27.

There’s no doubt that STARZ made the right decision to offer the series an early renewal. It was clear that the fans wanted more, and a lot of that will be due to Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan’s chemistry on screen, as well as including some big names in the supporting cast such as Tobias Menzies and Graham McTavish. Even fans of the books wouldn’t have stuck around if the adaptation didn’t start off great!
