When we heard Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan were producers, we hoped this meant more say in dialogue in Outlander Season 5. That is definitely the case!

Earlier this year, we learned that Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe has been promoted to producers on Outlander. This often happens with contract negotiations, giving the main stars more say in certain elements of the show. However, we’d not heard anything about what this means since.

It turns out Balfe and Heughan do get more say as producers. During Starfury’s Highlanders 4, Lauren Lyle discussed what being producers means for the series and for the two lead actors. Balfe and Heughan get scripts ahead of everyone else. This gives them the chance to go through the dialogue to see if there are any problems they know the fans will pick up on.

However, it’s not just about their dialogue. Lyle shared that the two stars fight for the rest of the cast. They fight for the audience’s experience. Balfe and Heughan know the books and they know the important moments for individual cast members. They want to see those moments hit the screens just as much as we do.

This will certainly make a lot of fans happy about Outlander Season 5. Some of the biggest complaints have been too many changes to the main book storyline. Season 4 was the straw that broke the camel’s back for many, with many complaining about Claire and Jamie not being there for Brianna giving birth to her baby.

While Matt B. Roberts and Sophie Skelton have defended the decision, fans of the novels are still disappointed that this important and beautiful scene was missing. There have been many others over the years or times when the dialogue just hasn’t worked out for the characters. With the two leads, who do know the characters well, with a little more say-so, there’s hope that more of these scenes will be included. At least, let’s get rid of some of the clunky dialogue.

What do you think about Balfe and Heughan having more say as producers? Are you happy to get that confirmation? Let me know your thoughts below.
