Outlander Season 5 filming: Caitriona Balfe gives us a rainy update
We don’t get to hear much from Outlander Season 5 filming, but Caitriona Balfe has treated us to a small update. Albeit just one about the rain!
Don’t say the Outlander stars don’t treat us now and then. While Outlander Season 5 filming has been quiet recently, we’re getting the odd snapshot of things going on. Right now, we get an update from Caitriona Balfe, only to tell us all about the rain.
It’s Scotland. Anyone who has been there will know that you can get all four seasons in one day. And all four seasons for Scotland is pretty much rain, rain, and more rain, especially for the west coast! It comes in different levels, but it’s always wet. That is what makes it so beautiful so I never really complained too much while living there.

Balfe’s update on Instagram was just a snapshot of her waiting out the rain in her tent. She didn’t speak, although she did turn the camera on herself for a couple of seconds. The selfie didn’t show too much, but it looks like she’s back in her 18th-century wig, so no more 1968 surprises!
It’s not clear who is with Caitriona Balfe for filming right now. There are voices outside the tent, but they don’t sound familiar. It’s likely that the crew is outside working on setting everything up for the next process of filming or trying to keep sets dry during the rain.
Rainfall in Scotland is common in the summer. I don’t expect this to push filming back at all. The production staff will know all about the weather and will have planned the filming schedule for it. Some filming in the rain also takes place. It’s just the heavier periods of downfall that can put things on hold.
