Grantchester renewed for Season 5 by PBS Masterpiece

Grantchester Season 4 may have only just begun, but PBS Masterpiece has already made a decision on the future. Grantchester Season 5 is officially happening

Grantchester Season 4 has only just premiered on PBS Masterpiece. The first season starring Tom Brittney as William Davenport airs on Sundays on PBS Masterpiece, but before that happened, there was news about the future of the series. ITV and PBS Masterpiece have renewed Grantchester for Season 5.

For those who haven’t seen the series yet, it stars Robson Green as the gruff detective Geordie Keating. The first three seasons saw James Norton in the lead role but he left at the end of the third season, opening the doors for Brittany to take up the role of the reverend in the series.

As well as confirming the fifth season was going to happen, we also learned that Outlander’s Lieutenant Jeremy Foster would continue in the role of Reverend Will Davenport. This is excellent news for Sassenachs looking for something with a Claire and Jamie connection.

When will Grantchester Season 5 premiere? Well, it’s going to be a while! The fourth season is only just airing on PBS Masterpiece. Season 3 premiered in June 2018 and Season 2 premiered in March 2016! Hopefully, we won’t be waiting two years for the fifth season, but the premiere won’t likely be before June 2020.

Fans can watch the fourth season on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. on PBS Masterpiece. It’s certainly worth it for Sassenachs to see our Season 1 and 2 lieutenant take on a leading role — and he has plans to remain in the show for as long as possible.
