STARZPLAY has 29% of SVOD market in MENA: Good thing for Outlander?
In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), STARZPLAY holds 29% of the SVOD market. What could this mean for the future of Outlander and more?
The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) has reported that STARZPLAY holds 29% of the Subscription-Video on Demand (SVOD) market. It’s worth looking at what this could mean for Outlander.
Digital Studio ME reports that based on subscriptions, the platform leads the way among the region. It also holds 32% market share in terms of revenue, and it’s all thanks to a mixture of third party and exclusive content. Outlander is one of the exclusive STARZ Originals on the subscription service.

The show hasn’t been explicitly named in the report for why the subscriptions have been good. Also, STARZ doesn’t let us know exact figures for viewings on its platforms anywhere in the world. There are just odd indications that Outlander is one of the most popular shows across the service.
However, the content on offer will certainly play a part in subscriptions. With more streaming services becoming available, it’s important for the likes of STARZ, Amazon Prime Video, and Netflix to offer more original content.
STARZPLAY MENA also has the advantage of offering local third-party content. There’s a focus on acquiring more locally relevant TV shows and movies, which will make it a better option compared to other streaming services in the area.
Yet, this growth could be a good thing for Outlander. I’ll keep the reasons short and sweet, because it’s all about exposure right now.
As STARZ grows internationally, it will be able to keep more revenue from its own shows and have more control over understanding data. This will help to get a better understanding of the type of content that works globally. We already know that Outlander is popular in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Australia, and many other locations around the world, so seeing a growth in subscriptions on its platform will help more people find the show and continue to grow its fanbase.
