14. Discussing the home Jamie would like

After leaving River Run, Claire and Jamie decide on where they’re going to live. This isn’t just about what Claire wants, although there is a discussion of that. Claire wants to know what Jamie would like out of a home.

While some of this discussion was taken from the book, there were multiple book scenes joined together for the sake of time. But it all worked and came together. We got to see Claire’s willingness to compromise — and I adore that she does put Jamie’s wishes first by agreeing to Fraser’s Ridge instead of heading back to Wilmington — and she listens to him.

Another moment that connects to this is how she listens to Jamie’s life without her. If it wasn’t for her, Fergus, Marsali, and others, Jamie would have been happy with any life offered to him and Claire understands that without judgment.

13. Offering Brianna a choice without judgment

One of my favorite moments from Outlander Season 4, Episode 10 was after Brianna opened up about the rape. Claire looks for a way to help her daughter and it has to be one of my favorite moments of the whole of the fourth season.

While the reason behind this conversation is heartbreaking, we get to see another layer to Claire’s personality. She wants to help her daughter, be the mother that she never necessarily could be in the 20th century. This is a chance to offer medical and parental help, free of judgment and expectations.

I wish we could see more of Claire stepping back and allowing people to make their own decisions. However, I appreciate that she offered Brianna this choice.
