What happened to the buried Jacobite’s gold? While Outlander has its tale, Discovery’s Expedition Unknown heads to the Scottish Highlands to uncover the real mystery.

The first two seasons of Outlander saw the build-up to the Battle of Culloden. It would mark the end of the Scottish Highland way as the people knew it. One mystery has always remained hidden. Discovery’s Expedition Unknown heads to the Scottish Highlands to find out what happened to the Jacobite gold.

After Culloden, the Jacobite buried their gold. It was a way to keep some sense of hope alive. Of course, we know now that Bonnie Prince Charlie never made it back to Britain after he left Scotland in fear of his life. The Jacobite cause was doomed to fail but that gold has remained buried.

Josh Gates is a television presenter and author and has taken viewers on many mysteries over the last six seasons of Expedition Unknown. Just recently, he took us through the Atlantis of the Andes and now he’s taking us on a journey of Scotland to search for the missing gold.

Gates is often successful in uncovering some of the mysteries. He can find some of the treasure and have it analyzed. Hopefully, for Outlander fans this will be one of those episodes. Even if not, this is a chance to learn a little more about the Battle of Culloden and what the Jacobites did after the failed battle against the British Army.
