Outlander Season 5 will reportedly see Jamie travel to the future

Hold onto your hats, ladies and gentlemen. Outlander Season 5 is going to see a major change from the books as Jamie Fraser will travel to the future.

We know that a book adaptation can’t be completely the same as the original source material. We’ve seen some changes here and there over the years, but Outlander Season 5 is going to see the biggest one yet. Jamie Fraser is going to travel to the future.

Yes, this is despite Diana Gabaldon routinely saying that Jamie can’t travel. There are just so many fans asking for this to happen that showrunners Matt B. Roberts and Toni Graphic want this to become a thing. We can blame a lot of fanfiction for this, which shows Jamie spending time in various points in the future, including traveling through the stones after Claire.

“We read some of the fanfiction out there and just thought it sounded perfect,” Roberts explained to an unconfirmed source about the plans, “Claire, Bree, and Roger all come from the future. Why should they have to give up their lives for Jamie?”

“A lot of people think that a book adaptation should be exactly the same as a book,” Graphia reportedly stated, “But that’s not the case. We want this to be different and it’s time for Outlander Season 5 to step out from the confines of the book.”

This is a major change to the canon in the show. Gabaldon has always said that Jamie can’t travel. He doesn’t have that ability, but there have been plenty of fans wishing it could happen. Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have told unconfirmed sources that they’re completely on board with this change because it’s going to be “exciting for the book fans to see something different.”

One of the most exciting things is that the storyline is also going to go back in time. The showrunners have decided to take the story back to the second season instead. Remember when Jamie put his hand on the stones and we all held our breaths to see if he’d go through them? We’re going to get 20 years of Jamie and Claire raising Brianna in the 1940s-60s together.
