Despite the Outlander TV series being successful, Diana Gabaldon wouldn’t say no to an Outlander movie. However, there’s no need to worry about the future of the series just yet.

For the last four years, we’ve watched Diana Gabaldon’s words come to life on screen. There are still two more seasons to develop, with one of those possibly starting filming very soon. However, the author of the Outlander series isn’t ruling out an Outlander movie just yet.

This doesn’t mean there’s a problem for the future of the series. Despite the change at the top of STARZ, Outlander remains one of the cable network’s strongest performers. In fact, it’s second behind Power, and it sounds like it’s a steady streamer on the app, too. Lionsgate (which owns STARZ) would be stupid to cancel one of the best programs on the app.

When Gabaldon talked about seeing an Outlander movie with The Sunday Post, she didn’t even hint at worry about the future of the series. It was all about what she’d like to see happen on the big screen. She wants to see Scotland portrayed in all its beauty.

Of course, this would mean taking the storyline back to Scotland. There have been mentions in the past from Gabaldon that the story will end in Scotland. How that’s going to happen isn’t clear, but as fans, we all have our theories.

It could be possible that the very end of the series is actually a two-hour movie instead. Whether the show finishes with Season 6 or Season 9/10, there could be a wrap-up movie for the final seasons in Gabaldon’s final book. This would offer the chance to put Scotland on the big screen and allow the series to go out with a bang.

If this happened, it wouldn’t be the first show to go out in this way. Firefly got a wrap-up movie after being canceled after just one season. Sex and the City got two movies after its successful run on HBO.
