Outlander Season 5: Stephen Woolfenden possibly returning to direct
While Outlander Season 5 filming may not have started yet, production is getting ready. Part of that process is scouting locations and it looks like Stephen Woolfenden is involved, meaning he’s possibly returning to direct an episode.
Production on Outlander Season 5 is certainly underway. While filming hasn’t started, the scouting for locations has and it looks like Stephen Woolfenden is part of that process. That will likely mean that he’s going to direct one of the episodes.
Earlier this month, he shared a post on Twitter of the trip through a wood and tagged Jon Gary Steele. We all know Steele is part of the Outlander team, in charge of all the set creations, so that means the two, along with Patrick Conroy (first assistant director on a number of previous Outlander episodes), were likely looking for Outlander Season 5 locations. Considering filming hasn’t begun yet, this possibly means they’re looking for locations for the first episode or two.

This won’t be the first time Woolfenden has directed an episode. He was the talent behind Season 4, Episode 13, titled “Man of Worth,” and what a beautiful episode that was! He was the only director only to do one episode of the season, possibly suggesting that the plan was for him to come back for the first episode of Season 5.
Woolfenden certainly comes with plenty of experience and a lot of talent. He’s directed episodes of Doctor Who, Strike Back, and the upcoming STARZ Original, The Spanish Princess. When it comes to movies, he’s been involved in the Harry Potter franchise, Fantastic Beasts, and the upcoming Pokemon movie.

No details for the Season 5 episodes have been shared just yet. It looks like the stars are starting to come together in Scotland, suggesting that filming will begin soon. However, a recent casting notice suggests that we’ll be waiting for April.
