Outlander Season 4: Caitriona Balfe talks about Claire and Jamie’s changing relationship

The relationship between Claire and Jamie has certainly changed in Outlander Season 4. Caitriona Balfe as spoken about that and why it was the case.

Fans didn’t miss the fact that Claire and Jamie’s relationship changed in Outlander Season 4. There were plenty of complaints that their relationship wasn’t like it was in the first season. Caitriona Balfe has spoken out about that changing relationship.

I’ll say, personally, I enjoyed seeing the change of pace in the lives of the Frasers. I didn’t miss the passion from the first season, as I still saw the passion was there but in a different way. Claire and Jamie aren’t as sexually active as they once were but there’s still something between them.

During an interview with Vanity Fair after Outlander Season 4, Balfe explained that the change is due to the age. These two characters are 20 years older than they were in the first season. A relationship isn’t constant. There are ups and downs in relationships as life throws things their way.

And life has certainly thrown plenty towards the Frasers. Despite being married for 20+ years, they’ve only been physically together for about five. In those five, they’ve had children, been parts of rebellions, been separated by centuries, gone on voyages to rescue family, and built a home together.

This doesn’t mean that the two won’t share some intimate moments moving forward. They still have their time together (the bathtub scene, anyone?) but they also need to show the other parts of their relationship. They are now parents and grandparents, so time has to be spent on those relationships, too.
