Sophie Skelton has inked a deal with ICM Partners. Could this mean anything for Outlander?

Deadline reported on Feb. 7 that Sophie Skelton has inked a deal with ICM Partners. This is great news for the actress, who is growing in her field and branching out into more movies. The question for many is what the deal means for Outlander.

I’ll get the immediate worry out of the way: no, it doesn’t mean anything for the next two seasons of Outlander. Skelton is part of the cast and there’s no way that her character Brianna would be recast. She’ll be in a contract for the two years and signing with ICM Partners won’t change that.

Could it mean something in the future? Well, possibly. But then we’re looking at two to three years in the future (depending on filming and air dates).

While the cast and crew have all said they want to see the series through to the end (presuming Diana Gabaldon’s end, which is still to be written), we don’t know what’s to come in the future. I’ve tried planning out just a year and then something happens that changes everything.

Instead of being a problem for the series, the ICM Partners deal will certainly be good for Skelton. She’s gaining more career opportunities and building her portfolio and that has a chance to continue. And it’s certainly well deserved with how much she’s embodied her character, Brianna. We could get to see her more on TV and movies outside of Outlander, considering the breaks between filming that could happen (the cast has had seven months off between filming Seasons 4 and 5).
