Outlander saw another uptick in the ratings thanks to the highly anticipated moment of the whole season. Is it good enough and does it really matter?

Ratings for Outlander Season 4, Episode 9 are in. The Live + Same Day ratings saw a boost from the previous week thanks to the highly anticipated moment finally happening. However, is the boost enough?

The episode saw a boost of 16.67% in the demo from the previous week, to 0.14. The total audience figures jumped back over the million to 1.007. This was a 10.90% jump from the previous week, according to TV Series Finale, and is the fourth highest of the season.

Unlike “A. Malcolm,” the big moment of Season 4 didn’t pull in the highest rating of the season. So far, the premiere continues to be the highest rated in the demo and the moment Brianna and Roger went through the stones was the highest viewed in terms of total audience. Does this mean that Brianna and Jamie meeting wasn’t that important?

Well, for one, the figures are just the LIve + Same Day ratings. They don’t take into account the STARZ app viewers. This makes up a larger amount of the viewers, as people prefer to watch directly on the app from midnight. There were plenty of fans making it clear they were staying up until midnight because this was the episode they were waiting for.

Secondly, it’s important to remember the timing of this episode. STARZ chose to keep airing episodes during the holiday season. Most other shows took time off over Christmas and New Year, knowing that the majority of people wouldn’t be able to tune in live. Because of the app, STARZ doesn’t have to worry about the Live + Same Day ratings.

So, while not seeing the highest rated episode of the season is a disappointment for such an episode, it’s understandable. This was up against the Christmas holidays and New Year celebrations.

It’s clear that plenty of people were still watching. The show made it to the Nielsen Social Top 10 and was the only scripted program for the week.
