4. Watching her sleep

Jamie realizes that he needs to get to know Brianna more and the best way to do that is to go hunting. This brings him to seeing her while she sleeps when he gets to see her smile.

He doesn’t want to wake her from this dream. Jamie would do anything to continue letting her sleep peacefully, but at the same time, he wants to take her hunting. He wants to bond with his daughter.

What I love the most about this is the connection to Outlander Season 2. Claire tells what she thinks is Jamie’s grave at Culloden that Brianna smiles in her sleep like he does. It’s yet another part of Jamie that is within Brianna.

3. Admitting he wants to keep her in the past

There’s this moment at night when Jamie and Claire talk about what Brianna will do next. Now that she’s told them about the fire, there’s no reason for her to stay. She needs to go back through the stones, even though both would love for her to live on Fraser’s Ridge with them.

This leads to Jamie’s raw emotion yet again. He admits everything that he would love to happen. He wants to be a father — it’s something we know he’s good at from the way he raised Fergus. Yet, he’s never had the chance to show it.

There’s so much regret within this scene, but at the same time, he is always willing to sacrifice his own happiness for others. He’s willing to put Brianna’s future first and that means she has to return to her home and her time.
