Outlander Inside the World: Who is the real savage?
Outlander Season 4, Episode 5 was titled Savages for a reason. The Inside the World clip explains more of that, along with why Murtagh returned.
I always knew from the title “Savages” that Outlander Season 4, Episode 5 would make us question the term. We’d question who the actual savage was, which is something Inside the World goes into.
The behind-the-scenes look at the episode sees Matt B. Roberts and Toni Graphia explain the reasoning behind the title. It wasn’t just to question who the savage was, but also to allow us time to understand the reasons behind the term. We got a look at the tense relationship between Native Americans and the White Colonists, seeing how something good can be viewed as something bad.

Inside the World for “Savages” also explored more of bringing Murtagh back into the fold. Even if you haven’t read the book, “Voyager,” you’ll know that Murtagh died at Culloden. The show changed that because of the way the character adapted.
Duncan Lacroix is a beloved part of the Sassenach family. His character also got far more development than Diana Gabaldon could offer in the books. After all, the books are initially only told from Claire’s point of view (and in the first person).
When Jamie’s point of view is introduced, it may be from the third person but it’s still his view. This can limit character development for the side characters. The show needed to develop the character more and we got this godfather who had some beautiful moments with both Claire and Jamie.
