2. Jenny has already warned Jocasta of Claire

Up until this point, we’ve not heard much of Jocasta. Those who have read the books already know about her, but it’s only been in the lead up to Outlander Season 4 that show-only or show-first fans have heard much about her (unless they’ve been talking to book-first fans). While this may be the first time we’re hearing much about her, it’s clear that other family members have remained in touch.

Jenny has clearly been writing to Jocasta about Jamie and Claire. I do have to wonder what these letters have been like. Jenny was upset at Claire’s actions over the last 20 years and knows Claire is hiding something else.

I’m not sure if the letters are part of the book. Knowing that Jenny isn’t going to be in Outlander Season 4, this could have been a way to keep the character in but I’ll let book fans tell me if the letters are in “Drums of Autumn.”

3. Jocasta clearly doesn’t trust Claire

Jocasta is still a MacKenzie and that certainly shows in this scene. She doesn’t trust Claire. In fact, the more she hears, the more hostile she becomes. However, it remains subtle enough to keep the conversation going.

In this scene, I can see plenty of Colum in Jocasta. She’s conniving and thinks ahead of everyone else. She puts Claire on the spot and listens carefully to the answer.

I don’t think Jocasta believes Claire is telling the truth about time spent with the Quakers. It’s clear she’s still trying to figure this “lively one” out. This relationship is certainly going to be an interesting one in the episode.
