This week in Outlander history: Claire goes back to the past

During this week in Outlander history, Claire made her journey back to the past. It was the week Freedom and Whisky first aired.

In this week in Outlander history, we watched as Claire stepped back into the past. Season 3’s “Freedom and Whisky” aired for the first time on Oct. 8, 2017, and we excitedly waited for that moment the Frasers would see each other again.

This was one of those episodes that focused mostly on the one storyline. It was all about Claire’s journey to the past. After initially thinking that she’d run into a dead end to find Jamie in the past, Roger surprised her with a pamphlet written under the name A. Malcolm. There was one line that made it clear someone had knowledge of the future and Roger put the pieces together.

We then saw Claire make a decision: would she go to the past or remain in the present with her daughter? Of course, book fans knew the decision she’d make. This episode did make a slight change in how Claire decided and the way Brianna reacted, but the change was subtle and understandable. In fact, they made Claire’s journey to the past a little more realistic, especially from Brianna’s point of view.

Then there was the creation of the dress from raincoats. With plenty of hidden pockets, Claire had something that would be useful for her journey to the past and the dress certainly did change into many other outfits or have other purposes over the next few episodes.

This week in Outlander history also gave us that moment Jamie would see his soul mate again. And it was just as hilarious as we expected, as Jamie suddenly fainted when he realized that Claire was real; that she’d come back to him.

The week also meant a break. We’d take a week off before seeing the highly anticipated reunion between the Frasers.
