Outlander‘s Claire is one of the best role models for modern-day women and to celebrate Caitriona’s birthday, we’re looking at just why the character is so awesome.
Claire is a strong, independent, and passionate woman. While she’s passionate in the bedroom, that passion also shows in other parts of her life. If she believes in something, she will make it clear. There are times that her passion and beliefs cause problems in the 18th century, but in the 20th century (and now in the 21st century) that passion and her stubbornness is needed.

Even in the 18th century, she shows that having beliefs is important and standing up for those beliefs is essential. There are situations that arise that will make you change your mind or affect who you are, but Claire remains true to herself as much as possible. She’ll look at all her options before making a choice that goes against her beliefs.
At the same time, Claire shows that a woman doesn’t need a man to do everything for them. Women can work and support a family. During the 20th century, she follows her dream and becomes a surgeon–in fact, the most talented surgeon in the hospital. Just because the men were against her didn’t stop her from standing up for herself.
Her attitude to life is something everyone can learn from. Don’t be afraid to stand up for your beliefs.
