Outlander Season 1, Episode 3 reminds Claire that there is hope in getting back to Frank if she wants to. Here’s a look at the best lines from The Way Out.

Claire loses and regains hope of getting back to Frank in Outlander Season 1, Episode 3. Between memories of her lost husband, navigating the world of the 18th century, and learning more about the standing stones through folklore, Claire faces a mixture of emotions.

The Way Out” gave us some poignant and important moments throughout. Here are the five best lines from the episode.

I’ve never seen a woman past eight or nine with skin so unmarked by injury or illness. Your next husband will be a lucky man.

It starts with Mrs. Fitz, who has become a friend and trusts Claire. While this part of the episode eventually goes into a daydream, this part is clearly happening. Claire is reminded of obligations and necessities for women. She isn’t going to do that well without a husband in this time, which makes Claire want to get back to her own time even more.

Only flesh, which makes a rather poor garment, I’m afraid.

I always chuckle at this line. Claire is clearly trying to build a rapport with Colum, knowing that gaining his trust is the way out. This is one of the ways to build a rapport, while also healing the pain in his legs.

Have you never found yourself in a situation that has no earthly explanation?

Geillis’ character has always fascinated me. The more I watch this episode, the more I love this line. In fact, the whole scene that this line comes from fascinates me. Geillis clearly knows that Claire is from the future. Rather than just come out with it, she dances around the subject. In Outlander the TV series, we never find out why. It’s explained more in the book and something that I wish was delved into more in the series.

He needs a woman, not a lassie. And Laoghaire will be a girl until she’s 50.

Murtagh has a way with the truth. We all know now what becomes of Laoghaire over the 20 years between now and the end of the third season (and the third book). Murtagh couldn’t have been more right! This line stood out and was funny before we learned the truth, though. That’s what makes it one of the best now.

I must escape Castle Leoch and get back to the stones as soon as possible or die trying.

As much as I dislike the voice overs used in Outlander, this line is one of those that stands out for good reason. It’s the moment Claire regains the hope of getting back through the stones. The moment she decides getting back to her time is worth risking her life. I never really got the sense of this in the novel for some reason, but the show made good use of the line to put that loss of hope and regaining it so important.

Of course, a special mention has to go to the farting noises when Claire is in Geillis’ house. They were just perfect!
