4 reasons Jamie should travel to Claire’s time in Outlander (and 4 he shouldn’t)

Reason to go: He’d be away from bounties on his head

Can Jamie ever say on the right side of the law? It certainly doesn’t seem that way in the 18th century. When he was in Scotland, he was trying to stay well away from Black Jack Randall. He spent his time in prison and then on parole for his time in the Jacobite rebellion. This is a guy who can’t seem to ever just simply follow the law.

That could change quickly in the 20th century. It is a safer time. Scotland isn’t as ostracized as it was in the 1700s. Life is a little quieter and far more predictable, especially for the life that Claire would be able to provide with her skills as a surgeon. Jamie would have a calmer life without rebellions and uprisings.

Reason to stay: Diana Gabaldon’s time travel rules say so

Honestly, there isn’t a discussion to be had. Diana Gabaldon has made it so Jamie can’t time travel. She’s confirmed it numerous times that Jamie isn’t able to go to Claire’s time. Caitriona Balfe has also confirmed it.

How is Jamie in Claire’s time at the very beginning of Outlander then? Well, that is something that we’ll have to wait for Book 10 to find out. It will be worth the wait.
