In this week in Outlander history: Another excruciating break to end a season
There wasn’t a new episode in Outlander history this week. The series took an excruciating break just before another season finale.
Outlander history is a chance to look back at the episodes of the series that aired on the network. Just like before the Season 1 finale, Starz took an excruciating break before going into the second season finale. If you thought that break before “A. Malcolm” was hard, this was even harder.
This week in 2016, scores of fans around the world waited impatiently to see the Outlander Season 2 finale. Episode 12 had left us with the knowledge that the Battle of Culloden would happen. Of course, we knew that from the season premiere, but it was this point that we knew all attempts to stop it would fail. The grave look between Jamie and Murtagh told us that they knew we would get a bad ending.
Now we had to wait to see how it all played out. We had to wait a week to find out whether Claire and Jamie would carve their initials on each of their thumbs. Fans waited to find out who would die before the battle and we waited to see if we’d get a glimpse of the battle starting. Would we say goodbye to Dougal, Rupert, and Bonnie Prince Charlie?

It’s odd for a show to take a week off before the season finale. However, Starz did it twice. Outlander Season 2 wasn’t quite as excruciating as the first season. Thankfully, the network decided not to do this to us for the third season and hopefully, it doesn’t happen in the fourth!
This isn’t something we have to deal with now. The second season is on Starz and we get to watch it as much as we want.
