Scottish battlegrounds and historical sites aren’t the only ones in need of help for preservation. Alamance Battleground is the latest site used in Outlander that needs your help.

We hear a lot about the Scottish battlegrounds featured in Outlander. The country has seen a major tourism boost because of Diana Gabaldon’s novels and the TV series. However, the battlegrounds aren’t the only ones that need your help and support. Across the Atlantic there’s another important one that comes up in “The Fiery Cross” and will likely be featured in Outlander Season 5. It’s all about Alamance Battleground.

There’s a chance for the North Caroline Department of Natural and Cultural Resources to purchase the land adjacent to the Alamance Battleground State Historic Site. Currently, the land adjacent to the battleground can be used for the real estate market. However, these lands were utilized by the Regulators during this iconic battle, a lead-up to the Revolutionary War. It was a retreat afterward and used as a triage during.

The Department doesn’t have much time to raise money needed to buy the land. If someone else buys the land, we could see housing and other developments built in the area, removing some of the historical elements and memories from the land. There is currently a GoFundMe campaign to help raise the money.

Since the campaign started two months ago, there has been an $80,000 grant given by the Cannon Foundation, lowing the amount needed from $500,000 to $420,000. The Department is also in talks with the Clean Water Management Trust Fund to secure $300,000. That would reduce the amount needed through crowdsourcing to $120,000. So far, a little over $6,000 has been raised, so there is still a long way to go.

I get a LOT of mail, and most of it is interesting. This week, I got a really interesting request from the North…

Outlander TV series hasn’t covered Alamance yet, but it does appear in “The Fiery Cross.” It’s a battle that Brianna says she didn’t know from the history books and is an important one for William Tryon in the fifth book (and in real life).
