In this week in Outlander history: Je Suis Prest
Preparations for the Jacobite rebellion took place in this week in Outlander history. Outlander Season 2, Episode 9 aired.
“Je Suis Prest” was the episode that aired in this week in Outlander history. Fans had the chance to watch the men Jamie had gathered from Simon Fraser, Lord Lovatt train to become soldiers. We knew the men weren’t going to be good, but this episode showed us just why the Scots failed in the Jacobite rebellion. Remember, these men were mostly farmers with absolutely no military training.
There was a reunion for Claire and Jamie, as the MacKenzie men willing to go against Colum MacKenzie showed up. You may have missed the quick mention of young Willie not being there as he’d married and gone to the Colonies. This was a way to quickly write Finn Den Hertog out of the series, as the actor had moved onto other projects–interesting fact, but Willie was the one supposed to die at the Battle of Prestonpans!

The MacKenzie men wanted guerrilla warfare, but we know this isn’t how the Scottish fought back then. It wouldn’t have been possible for many of the battles anyway due to the open land. What we did get was plenty of conflict between Jamie and Dougal, as Jamie cemented himself as the leader of the men.
Meanwhile, we got plenty about Claire’s memories during World War II. We saw how PTSD can come back years later, as the canons and fighting reminded her of an event during the war that she had suppressed as much as possible.
