Highland Folk Museum’s Outlander Day is this weekend. You will not want to miss out on all the displays, cooking, and talks.

Back in 2014, the Highland Folk Museum was used as the backdrop for some of the Outlander filming. The very next year, the open-air museum decided to put on “Outlander Day,” and it’s since become an annual event. 2018’s event will be held this weekend on June 9. It’s definitely not a day to miss and here’s a look at everything you’ll be able to do.

There are plenty of talks and demonstrations happening. This is a chance to learn more about real life in the 1700s, looking at the weaving and sewing, the cooking, and the waulking of the cloth. You’ll get to witness many of the things that Claire saw when on the rounds for collecting the rents back in the very first season.

This year, there will also be a talk on the clothing Claire and Jamie would have worn. This is by PhD student, Maureen Hammond. For those who want to find more books to read while getting through Droughtlander, The Last HighlanderThe Prince Who Would Be King author Sarah Fraser will also attend for a talk and book signing, where you can get both books to read at your leisure.

Don’t forget to attend in your Outlander costumes. There is a fancy dress competition at the very end.

Here’s the full program of events for the day. All times are local times.

  • 11 am: What would Jamie and Claire wear?
  • 11:30 am: Dying and weaving in the 1700s
  • Noon: Waulking the cloth
  • 2 pm: Sarah Fraser talk and book signing
  • 3 pm: Fancy dress competition results

There will also be life-sized cut-outs of Claire and Jamie that you can get your photo taken next to, with Outlandish UK bringing those honors. Inverness Outlanders has offered support for the event.

You can find out more about the event at Highland Life’s website.
