Outlander fans are used to seeing Caitriona Balfe dress up in 18th-century clothing and take on a powerful small-screen role. Now you’ll have your chance to see her on the big-screen again.
Caitriona Balfe has brought Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser to life for Outlander fans, but do you know much of the other work she’s done? Her last big-screen production was Money Monster with Jodie Foster and George Clooney. Now you’ll get to see her hit the big-screen again.
Shortly after the announcement that Sam Heughan would be in a new movie, fans learned that Balfe would be too. They’re not in the same movie, unfortunately, but both are set to be big blockbusters. Balfe’s, in particular, will involve Matt Damon and Christian Bale, as well as A Quiet Place breakout star Noah Jupe.

Balfe will play the role of Bale’s wife in Ford vs. Ferrari. Bale just happens to be Ken Miles, the British race who just happens to drive the car that wins the 1966 Le Mans race. Damon will pay Carroll Shelby, the engineer who designed said car, the Ford GT 40.
Despite the time, Balfe isn’t just going to sit on the sidelines. Her character is also an accomplished driver, just not on the same level as her husband. Jupe will play the couple’s son, who worries about the dangers of racing.
There’s another Outlander connection in the movie. Jez Butterworth has written the script, who wrote the script for the play that won Laura Donnelly an Olivier Award.

Production for the movie starts in the summer. It certainly seems like this is the reason for the longer break between filming Outlander seasons.
