Outlander Season 5 preparation work has begun
Over the weekend, showrunner Matt B. Roberts has shared that the prep work for Outlander Season 5 has already begun. It’s already exciting.
Outlander showrunner, Matt B. Roberts, may not like spoilers but he does like giving updates on the progress of seasons and behind-the-scenes work. Over the weekend, he shared on Twitter that the prep work for Outlander Season 5 has begun. It’s already exciting and all it consists of right now is re-reading the fifth book.
While this tells us that the showrunners are definitely planning on running through “The Fiery Cross” for the fifth season, it doesn’t give us much on how much of the story will be featured in this upcoming season. Every year, the team discusses the idea of combining two books or reducing the season to just half a book. It’s possible that the fifth season will combine books five and six to help tell an exciting story in every episode or there may be something extra added of the showrunners’ and writers’ inventions.

Some suspected that Outlander Season 5 preparation work had already started before Starz officially confirmed the renewals. It would be important for the team to source the filming locations, especially as Scotland is growing in popularity as a spot to film. Licenses need to be gained and these could be granted even before the seasons had been officially confirmed.
However, the planning and writing wouldn’t have been planned before confirmation. There’s no point doing too much work before knowing how many episodes the team has to work with. Now we know that Outlander Season 5 has 12 episodes, so it’s time to see how to cut “The Fiery Cross” down into those 12 episodes to bring some sort of drama in each one.
Steven Cree, who plays Ian Murray on the series and loves to joke on Twitter, quickly commented to find out if he was going to be in the season. Of course, he likely knows the story but he thought he’d try his luck anyway. Musical recapper, Cat of CatsandKilts, very quickly replied with a fun meme of Richard Rankin sharing that the writers had offered one of Roger’s roles to Ian Murray. There are hints of spoilers for those who haven’t read the book yet, with dark humor for those who know exactly what happens to Roger in future books.
