During Outlander history this week, two episodes aired. The first would have ramifications for episodes even now. The second would continue to show us that history can’t be changed.
Between May 13 and 20, Outlander air two episodes of its show for the first time. Here’s a look at the episodes from Outlander history.
The first was the first season’s penultimate episode, one that would have ramifications for seasons to come. “Wentworth Prison” remains an episode that many fans can’t bear to watch a second time, as it certainly has its horrific moments. The second was an episode that proved history can’t really be changed, no matter how hard you try. However, “Best Laid Schemes” also showed just how much Jamie and Claire wanted to stop the Battle of Culloden.

Debuting on May 16, 2015, “Wentworth Prison” turned the Outlander story extremely dark, extremely quickly. We watched as it looked like Jamie was going to be hung at the gallows but knowing that Claire and Dougal’s men were just on the other side of the walls finding a way to save him. Just when we thought they were storming the prison (well, there was some hope that would happen), we realized that Black Jack Randall would be the one to save him from death–although maybe death would have been the better option!
We wouldn’t see everything that happened in the prison during this episode. This was the build-up, with Claire attempting to save him only to find Jamie give himself up to save his wife. There was no way he would allow something bad to happen to Claire. We’d have to wait until the following week to find out about all the physical and mental damage.
Best Laid Schemes
Slightly lighter was Outlander Season 2’s “Best Laid Schemes.” This episode aired on May 14, 2016 and saw Claire and Jamie continue their attempts to thwart Bonnie Prince Charlie’s war. They needed to find a way to stop the sale of wine for Charles’ war chest, so decided to use Claire’s medical knowledge.
It was an interesting episode for the Paris storyline, but nothing quite played out as intended. In fact, it would be the episode that would see Jamie and Black Jack face-to-face in a dual, after Black Jack got up to his “Wentworth Prison” ways to an extent with a child. This episode led into the saddest episode of Season 2: “Faith.”
