For those who aren’t quite up to date with Irish politics right now, the 8th amendment is about abortions. Right now, it is illegal for women to get an abortion in Ireland. Women travel abroad to terminate pregnancies, many because their pregnancies may either risk their lives or they are going to give birth to terminally ill or severely disabled children. Women face 14 years imprisonment for illegal abortions, as well as put their own lives at risk if they get backstreet abortions.
Whatever your opinion on abortions, the Irish celebrities supporting the repeal of the 8th amendment simply want women to have the right to choose what happens to their body.

The referendum takes place on May 25 in Ireland. Whichever way you want to vote, this is the day to cast it and let your government know.
