How many edits are needed for Outlander episodes?
It’s no surprise that TV shows go through editing stages before getting their final look. How many edits do the Outlander episodes need for final quality?
There is a lot of talk about the editing process, especially for a show like Outlander. There’s a belief that the series goes through multiple stages of editing at each step along the way. Barry Waldo, producer on the series, shared just how many edits are needed for each episode.
It turns out that it’s not quite as many as you would think. Of course, this could be just about the main edits. There’s certainly the chance that more edits take place before the final draft is created for the producers.
Q: How many edits are usually done for an episode? “Typically 2 main edits on #Outlander w the first being the Directors cut in Scotland then another in LA by ExecutiveProducers.”

Waldo shared that there are two edits needed for the episodes. One happens in Scotland and the other one happens in LA. Both are different types of edits, too.

The first is the director’s cut. This is likely when most of the scenes to be deleted will take place. It’s the stage that the director will choose the best shots for the particular episode, purely with the single episode in mind.
When it comes to the LA edits, it will all be about the overall season. The executive producers will likely sit down and discuss the full season as a whole, looking at how the individual episodes fit in. This is a good chance to make sure every single episode fits together seamlessly.
What’s unclear is when these edits are actually made. Does the visual effects department play a role before or after the director’s cut of Outlander episodes?
This is only “typically.” There are some directors who get no edits, but this may depend on when their episodes are shot.
