Starz president, Chris Albrecht, confirms positive things for Outlander the series.
Outlander may have only just finished airing Season 3 a month ago, but all eyes are on Season 5 and beyond. With the story still not over in book form, fans are eager to know Starz plans for the series. During the TCA on Jan. 12, Starz CEO and president, Chris Albrecht, confirmed good things for the series.
The show is set to continue into the future, according to Deadline. In fact, Albrecht says there will be a Season 5, 6 and more! After all, there are 10 books of material and the show is highly popular. Each season covers one book, so the upcoming Season 4 is based on the fourth book, “Drums of Autumn.”

"I think our biggest problem will be making sure that we don’t kill Caitriona and Sam along the way, they are working so hard, especially Caitriona, she’s amazing. The two of them are fantastic and so deserving of the accolades that they’ve gotten."
Becoming the second-most popular scripted series with females, it’s not surprising that Starz has decided to keep the show around. At the end of Season 2, the network confirmed Seasons 3 and 4 together. By the end of Season 3, Starz and Sony entered into early talks for Season 5.
There have been concerns about the series for some fans, especially on Facebook. Those affectionately dubbed “book purists” have complained about the deviations from the series. This isn’t anything new, although voices are heard more this season as the show gains more popularity from the non-book fans. There were some worries that the negativity would lead to Starz choosing not to renew the show after Season 4 (and some fans have even said they would like the series to end with Season 4).
Starz has a different plan. After all, the ratings have risen considerably since Season 2. This may be partially due to the night change (from a Saturday to a Sunday) but is also because more non-book fans are learning of the series thanks to Netflix and other streaming methods.
"We have joined legion of fans for Outlander around the world and our partners at Sony and we are having very productive discussions around the future of the show"
All that really matters now is whether Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan are up to continue the series. The two initially signed seven-year contracts, so there is still some time left on them. However, will they stick around until the very end? It certainly seems like Starz wants to tell the full story, just like Game of Thrones.
This isn’t to say Outlander Season 5 is definitely, officially confirmed. It’s looking good, but more negotiations between Sony, Starz and the Outlander showrunners need to take place.
